As voted for by members in attendance of our AGM in September, this seasons charity is the 1804 Four Heatons Air Cadets.
The squadron is sponsored by the Royal Air Force and is for young men and women aged 12-20.
It offers the young adults hands-on experience of a variety of activities such as flying, sports, camping, drills and playing musical instruments. By being a Cadet, life skills are instilled. They learn social skills, leadership skills, how to iron, and so much valuable knowledge like First Aid and everything gain from the Duke of Edinburgh Award (www.dofe.org).
The Cadets meet twice weekly and also help to look after the graves of fallen soldiers at Willow Grove Cemetery.
They parade and meet other squadrons for days of sport.
These young people have to sit exams to ‘move up the ranks’, and are currently raising funds to purchase computers so a number of Cadets can sit the online exams at the same time.
